Application A computer program with an interface, enabling people to use the computer as a tool to accomplish a specific task. Word processing, spreadsheet, and communications software are all examples of applications. Synonym: program Antonym: file

Bit A single, basic unit of information, used in connection with computers and information theory. I have a bit on my technology computer. Synonym: Letter Antonym: Word

Byte A group of bits, usually eight, processed as a single unit of data. A byte has 8 units of data. Synonym: Alphabet Antonym: Numbers

Backup a copy or duplicate version, especially of a file, program, or entire computer system, retained for use in the event that the original is in some way rendered unusable. The backup on my computer broke and I had to replace it. Synonym: Copy Antonym: Shred
