Cocoa from Ghana Cocoa has been grown in Ghana since the mid 19th century. Cocoa was first sold to other countries over 100 years ago. There are currently around 1.6 million people involved in growing cocoa in Ghana.

Ghana and Cocoa Cocoa is very important in Ghana because it brings money into the country when it is exported. Exported means selling it to other countries. There is a government body called “Cocobod” which helps to ensure a better price for farmers when they sell their cocoa.

Here are some pictures

From Bean to Bar : How the Cocoa Bean Becomes a Chocolate Bar.  The cocoa for Divine chocolate is grown in Ghana by a farming company called Kuapa Cocoa.  The cocoa pods grow for 5 to 6 months.  The farmers cut the pods from the trees.  The pods are then split open and then the beans are left to dry for about a week.  The beans are sorted and cleaned and then roasted at a very high temperature.  Then cocoa is made, which then goes into chocolate bars.

Here is a farmer in Ghana with his cocoa pods that will later become a bar of Divine chocolate.
