Electricity Labs Written by: Christina M. Spears Georgia Agriculture Education Curriculum Office July 2003

Building A Circuit Materials: D Battery, piece of copper wire, and small (flashlight) light bulb Procedure: –Coil the wire around the bottom of the bulb. –Place the other end of wire on bottom of battery (negative end) and the light bulb at the top (positive end). What happens????

We have created light!! How else can we create this circuit?? Try to find other ways to make the light bulb light!!

Make Rice Krispies Jump! Normally, we hear Rice Krispies pop in our cereal in the morning, but now we want to see them jump! Materials: Hand full of Rice Krispies, plate of plexiglass (foot by foot), wooden blocks or ceramic cups (need to be 1-3 inches high), and wool sweater or fake fur

Making those Krispies Jump Procedure: –Place the Rice Krispies on the table surface –Put the wooden blocks on the table and balance the plate of plexiglass over the table and Rice Krispies –Rub the top of the plexiglass with the wool sweater or fur. What happens?

Jump!! The Rice Krispies slowly start to stand on end. When you stop rubbing the plexiglass, you can see the Rice Krispies jump to the glass!

Potato Clock Not only are potatoes delicious and nutritious, but they can also be used to power a digital clock!! Materials: Potato clock and two potatoes Procedure: Follow directions given in the box for the potato clock.

More Potato Power This digital clock can alternate between the month and day as well as the time!
