CHANGES IN MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY BY THOMAS BRAIN

The Black Plague

The term “Black Death” is recent. During the plague it was called “The Great Mortality” or “Pestilence”

The Black Death might of killed 200 million Europeans between 1348 and 1351.

Most experts agree that the plague was caused by Yersinia Pestis (or Y.pestis), a bacillus carried by fleas that live primarily on rats and other rodents that were common in medieval dwellings.

On November 2000 study's of tooth pulp in a French plague grave showed the presence of Y.pestis in all 20 samples from three victims.

Virtually nobody suspected the ever- peasant rats and fleas.

Of 140 Dominican brothers in Montpellier, only seven survived.

People say the the plague started in Africa then Asia, and spread through Europe.

PROGRESS IN MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

X-RAYS

X-rays are made in a highly evacuated glass bulb.

The X-ray was discovered in Germany.

The X-ray was first discovered in 1895.

The x-ray was discovered by Wilham Conrad Roentgen.

MRI

The MRI was invented by Dr. Raymond Damadian.

Even dogs can get an MRI scanning.

MRIs differ other imaging techniques.

ECG

An ECG machine works by recording the electrical impulse emitted by the heart.

The biggest part of the ECG machine is the circuity box.

The impulses are recorded in pairs.

Immunisation

Immunisations saves lives.

Immunisation prevents 2-3 million deaths per year.

An estimated 19.3 million children under the age of one bid not receive DTP3 vaccine.
