GED Orientation Click through this short presentation to find out more about the GED.

What are the GED tests? The GED tests are the five tests of General Educational Development. They are available for adults who did not graduate from high school.

Who can take the GED? You must be 19 to take the test. If you are under age 19 you must get an age waiver.

The GED Test is timed. Each test must be completed in a certain amount of time. * Some people qualify for extra time. A list of the accommodations is available at the end of this presentation.

Do I have to take all 5 GED tests at once? You can take tests one at a time. In fact, we recommend that students do take the GED tests one test at a time. * The entire group of tests takes 7 and a quarter hours to take.

The GED tests are visual and graphic. Over half of the items on the test are presented in graphic form. Maps, graphs, charts, photographs, and other graphics are part of the GED.

Where can I take the GED? We have a test site at the Hubbs Center here in Saint Paul.

Is it possible to take the GED tests online? No. You must take the GED test at an authorized test center such as the Hubbs Center.

How much does the GED cost to take? The testing fee is $95.00 for all five tests. *You may qualify for a reduced rate of $ More info about the reduced rate is available in the testing rm. 104.

What does the GED consist of? The GED consists of 5 tests. Literature/Reading Science Social Studies Math Writing

The GED Tests are multiple choice… Except for Part 2 of the Writing Test and 10 items on the Math test the GED tests are all multiple choice. *Part 2 of the Writing Test requires the student to write a short essay.

How is the test scored? You must have a combined score of 2,250 points. That’s an average of 450 points per test. 410 is a passing score but you will need to make up other points on another test.

What if I don’t pass? You can retake each of the tests twice in one calendar year. That means you have a total of three chances from January to December.

Will I get a diploma? When you pass the GED tests you will get a certificate regarded as a high school diploma.

Can I use the certificate the same as I would a high school diploma? Employers in private industry and government accept the GED certificate as they would a high school diploma.

Can I get into college with a GED? Almost all colleges and universities accept GED graduates who meet their other qualifications for admission.

Is the GED offered in other languages besides English? Yes. The GED is offered in Spanish and French print versions.

What types of disabilities are accommodated? Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Emotional/Mental Health Physical/Chronic Health Disability Learning and Other Cognitive Disabilities

How can I request accommodations? Each of the four disabilities has a specific form that is to be used when requesting accommodations. You can get these in the GED office in room 104.

What do I do to get started? Meet with your teacher to create a plan and to set goals for how you will successfully complete your GED.
