Ecological Materials and Resources Used

The use of framing lumber was limited because the amount of wood the builders could waste was limited to 10% therefore, materials were used with extreme conservation

Group bathrooms were used to decrease material and water use

The Building was designed so that the needs of the homeowners could be met without a redesign of the house

Choices are available in a range of sizes, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, with choice of a studio apartment in the back of the house

Use advanced optimum value engineering to optimize material use

The building is designed to be disassembled or recycled at the end of it’s life

Energy Efficiency

The house is a highly energy-efficient design with a Home Energy Rating index rating of 35, meaning the house consumes 65% less energy compared to a baseline home in the same climate House Energy Rating Services

The building is so energy efficient, it surpassed the target Home Energy Rating for 2030

The house has a roof-mounted solar panel, providing the homeowners with a reliable source of energy

The house is oriented on a linear east-west axis, this means not much light is let into the house during the summer and hot days

The trellis not only provides direct shading for the facade but it becomes fully vegetated and provides food as well as shelter for the house

During the winter, the trellis will allow the sun to shine onto the house giving a heat benefit.
