Presentation transcript:

Teacher’s Corner News from Mrs. Jao’s Class Dates to Remember Curriculum Corner Reading: We are learning strategies good readers use when they are reading. Each child has made a story map and will record a retelling of a Frog and Toad story. Math: Unit 3 focuses on four topics: numeration and place value, money, time, and data collection and analysis. Writing: We are learning how to make a plan before we write and studying different ways to publish non-fiction writing. Spelling: We are reviewing the short vowel sounds and different spelling patterns using short vowel sounds. Theme: We are learning about scientists and using the scientific process of observing, making predictions, and recording. We will do lots of hands-on activities to learn the properties of solids and liquids. It was great to see so many parents at the Student Led Conferences and all the centers went very well. The children especially enjoyed showing you the Microscope center. Each child has set two goals and will be working to achieve their goals. We will meet again in the Spring to discuss how their goals were achieved. A special thanks to our room mother Miki Chang and all the other mothers that helped to make the Halloween celebration a great success. You can see some pictures from our Halloween celebration in the photo gallery on the next two pages. Most of the children are writing meaningful comments in their Reading Logs about their homework books. Since this is the second quarter they need to fill at least two boxes in their Reading Log in order to earn a sticker. They can tell what the book is about and their feelings about the book. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Nov. 22 & 23 Thanksgiving Vacation
