President’s Speaking Circuit Different audiences/Different Interests Sports Economic/Community Development Cancer Hearts Energy My approach – Mandate Students Research Community Then…

My views on the Role of the Provost WKU UNC-Chapel Hill U of L My Focus Run interference International Graduate Academic support Advising Career counseling Recruitment Student life Find funding

Bread & Butter Heart & Soul Goes with out saying JOB #1 Can not be a great university without a commitment to excellence in undergraduate programs Undergraduate Education

My Focus – 2012 Means to end Haymarket/HSC Master Plan To Do:$200 M capital expenditure Bond Financing - $350 M in bank for next president Why:Critical fund source for HSC master plan education/research/clinical Critical externality – VA Needed Partners:State/Mayor/Private Developers

My Focus Shelby Campus – a positive cash flow from a lease To Do:A building (in addition to BSL3) Why:Acceptance by the university of the master plan and the concept of taking a non-performing asset to performing asset New:$ for education/research mission Ruling as Budget Director

Belknap Finalizing a viable, meaningful master plan that provides growth in academic space and a vibrant campus where best students want to come/live/study, with Kentucky Trailer property as a viable part of the campus with exploration of generating cash flow To Do:Master Plan with realistic pro forma Why:Commitment to educational excellence – HB1 Recruitment of students Student life/engagement Academic space Research space My Focus

A plan in place for a viable hospital and vibrant clinic that can continue to support “above” and “below” the line money for the academic mission of the University of Louisville To Do:Continued efforts to build clinical programs (ULH) accepted in the medical community that is supportive of the academic and research mission of the University of Louisville Involves:PPP/ULH/Partners My Focus

A continued effort to foster a culture of quality and excellence To Do:Why not the best? A culture committed to excellence and moving the university forward in a tough fiscal environment Graduation rate > 50% My Focus

So that’s it! Everything ties back to academic focus Progress and incredible sense of urgency
