What do you do when… 1.The computer won’t come on.The computer won’t come on. 2.The CPU comes on but the monitor won’t.The CPU comes on but the monitor won’t. 3.The computer won’t log in to the network. The computer won’t log in to the network. 4.The computer freezes. The computer freezes. 5.The computer is dirty. The computer is dirty. 6.The screen is the wrong size or shape. The screen is the wrong size or shape.

Congratulations:

When the computer won’t come on… 1.Check to see that it is plugged in. 2.Check to see that the cable in the back of the CPU is in tight. 3.Check to see that the power switch on the back of the CPU is on. 4.If there is a surge protector, check to see that it is plugged in and turned on. back

The CPU is on, but the monitor isn’t… 1.Click the power button on the front bottom corner of the monitor and make sure it is on. 2.If that button is glowing orange, check the cable that goes from the monitor to the CPU. 3.Make sure the power cable on the monitor is plugged in. back

The computer won’t log in to the network… 1.Uncheck the box that says “work station only”. There should not be a green arrow in that box. 2.Use the proper login. Teachers can only log in at one computer at a time. Each room has a login and each student has a login. 3.Check the internet cable at both ends. back

The computer freezes… 1.Be patient and wait just a minute. 2.If the computer does not move on, hold down “CTRL and ALT” and hit “DELETE”. 3.If all else fails, hold in the power button on the tower until the computer shuts down. Restart it. back

Yucch! The computer is dirty… Look at the lesson on cleaning a computer. Technology Club members will be learning how to properly clean a computer. Never put anything wet on a computer or part of a computer. Never mess with the back where the cords are. Let an adult do that. back

The screen is the wrong size or shape… At the bottom of the monitor is a round button or a set of smaller buttons. By pressing these buttons you can find the place to fix a size or shape of a screen. You can also change the brightness and contrast. back
