TNC 2005, June 8, 2005, Poznan2 RENAM Association – NREN of Moldova RENAM Association is a non-governmental, non-commercial and non-profit organization, established in the form of the public institution, carrying out its activities in conformity with the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, with legislation of the Republic of Moldova, currently in force, with international norms and conventions, with the present Statues, aimed at public benefit. Association RENAM activities has as its principal purpose constant development of communication and information infrastructure of the scientific and educational community of the Republic of Moldova. ASSOCIATION ACTIVITY DIRECTIONS: Creation of modern and high-capacity communication media for scientific and educational community in Moldova; creation of appropriate conditions for permanent network development for science and education by means of collaborated efforts of scientific and educational institutions; providing access to the national and foreign databases; development of and organizing access to scientific and educational informational content. TNC 2005, June 8, 2005, Poznan6 RENAM Network Development Programme (continuation):  Creation of experimental segments and gateways for introduction and deployment of IPv6 Internet technologies;  Elaboration and realization of new gateway interactions, including ground and satellite channels of external access to the Internet, gateways to scientific- educational networks of partners from Romania and Ukraine;  Expansion and transition to new technology of a gateway to access the Trans- European academic network GEANT (G2) through the scientific network of Romania – RoEduNet.

TNC 2005, June 8, 2005, Poznan8 Directions of RENAM external connections development Upgrading existing Radio-Relay facilities: –Up to 34Mbps using E3 interface of the available “Kurs” radio-relay equipment; Utilization of the “MoldTelecom” (national communication operator) fiber optics channel Chisinau-Iasi for obtaining Mbps bandwidth; Participation in the ISPs consortia for building “dark” fiber Chisinau-Iasi connection and realization direct RENAM-RoEduNet fiber connection; Participation in joint activities with partner NREN from Eastern Europe with the aim to create effective fiber connection of NIS R&D networks to GEANT - Porto-Optica study project; Participation in NATO Silk project utilizing two available satellite ground stations installed in RENAM network.

TNC 2005, June 8, 2005, Poznan10 Conclusions RENAM activities are directed toward: introduction the global informational society technologies and services to scientific-educational community of Moldova through integration of RENAM with Trance-European R&E GEANT (G2) network and participating in regional networks involving joint potential of Moldova specialists into collaborated research and training activity creating conditions for national scientific-educational information resources designing, development, accumulation and dissemination.
