Learning Objectives… Open a file Navigate through a document Scroll through text Insert text in a document Select text Edit a document by deleting and restoring text Create a folder

Deleting/restoring text… Undo Quick Access Toolbar Ctrl + Z Redo Quick Access Toolbar Ctrl + Y Overtype Mode File, Word Options, Advanced dialog box Delete Key Erases text from the right of the insertion point. Backspace key Erases text from the left of the insertion point

Folder creation… Create a folder Open Dialog box Save As dialog box Rename the folder Click the folder name once Rename and press “Enter”

Saving a file … Documents are save with the docx extension. What is a rich text format (RTF) documents? RTF is a file format standardized by Microsoft for creating formatted text files. Unlike a basic text file, an RTF file can include information such as text style, size, and color. The nice thing about the RTF format is that it is a universal format, meaning it can be read by nearly all word processors. Change the format for saving other than a docx.

Home Ribbons…formats text Formatting Groups Launcher button to expand groups Use the Show/Hide Button Located in the Paragraph group on the Home Ribbon What is font? A design for a set of characters. A font is the combination of typeface that defines the shape of each character and Measured in points—1/72 of an inch. Text attributes Bold—Ctrl + B Italics—Ctrl + I Underline—Ctrl + U Increase (Grow) font—Ctrl + Shift > Decrease (Shrink)—Ctrl + Shift <

Rearranging Text… Cut—Ctrl +X Copy—Ctrl + C Paste—Ctrl +V What is the Office clipboard A temporary storage that hold up to 24 copied items. Paste Special commands Keep source formatting—will not alter the pasted text formatting. Merge formatting—Change the text to the formatting options that are applied in the paste location. Keep text only—discard original formatting and only paste the text from the office clipboard.

Edit Text…Paste Multiple items Drag/Drop options Paste All options If the a 25 th option is copied to the clipboard, the first item on the clipboard will be deleted.

Apply Styles… What are styles Pre-defined combinations of fonts, colors, and paragraph formatting that are designed to save time. Use the Quick style gallery on the Home Ribbon How to customize a style by modifying a built-in style.

Borders…Shading What is a border? Paragraph Borders (Located on the paragraph group—Home Tab) Page Borders (located on the Page Layout Tab) Shading—used to emphasize text in a document in a color or in a gray. Shading only prints with a color printer. Print in gray regardless of printer type. Shading option (Located on the paragraph group—Home Tab or on the Page Layout Tab)

Previewing/printing… start here Print Preview—show the document as it will be printed. Located in the Print Information Window—File Tab Options at the bottom on the Print Preview area Preview multiple pages of a document at the same time. Printed documents—hard-copy Electronic document –soft copy Print—located on the File tab (Ctrl + P) Options at the Print Window Change Printers Number of copies Settings Page Setup
