Read to Achieve Summer Camp 2015 (2 nd year) ◦ Targets 3 rd graders who have not shown proficiency in reading via… EOG Reading Test EOG Reading Re-test and or RTA alternative assessment Reading Portfolio ◦ Note: Students have several opportunities to show proficiency ◦ Excludes students with Good Cause Exemptions: Limited English Proficient (LEP)…2 years or less Students with Disabilities (SWD)…with specific considerations Proficiency established through alternative SBE approved assessment or a reading portfolio Students previously retained more than once
Camp Details ◦ June 22, 2015 through July 9, 2015 ◦ 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. ◦ Louisburg Elementary School Read to Achieve Steering Committee: ◦ Facilitated by Dr. Stewart ◦ Established to promote district wide communication and solicit input from teachers on the RTA initiative as well as provide structure and expectations for the RTA Summer Camp ◦ Composed of school and district level curriculum resource teachers (8), two assistant principals, and one 3 rd grade teacher from each elementary school ◦ Held first meeting on April 22, 2015 Established the expectations for RTA staff and components for the RTA Summer Camp Application Application distributed electronically on May 1, 2015
Identification of students: ◦ Will identify potential students as early as May 22 in an effort to prepare parents, establish the number of staff needed, and determine bus routes ◦ Participation will be encouraged but not required RTA Summer Camp staff will begin planning on Thursday, May 28 from 3:30p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
