Florida’s Space Industry A $4.5 Billion statewide enterprise –184 companies in 26 counties –Commercial, NASA, Military, International and Academic Programs NASA Partnership at Kennedy Space Center, Pensacola NAS, and most Florida Universities DoD Partnership at CCAFS, Eglin AFB, Camp Blanding, Homestead ARB

What is the Spaceport Authority? A subdivision of Florida’s government Statewide responsibility for space industry expansion and diversification –Working in partnership with Florida’s Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development (OTTED) –Also partner with Enterprise Florida, local EDC’s and academia Similar to an airport or seaport authority –Empowered by law to provide all services, facilities and hardware necessary for the operation of a spaceport –Integrating space transportation into Florida’s multi- modal transportation planning system

The Florida Space Authority’s Goals Expand and diversify Florida’s statewide space industry Attract new commercial and government programs Exploit International Space Station-oriented economic and academic development opportunities Increase statewide space research and education involvement Increase the competitiveness and capacity of the Cape Canaveral Spaceport Evolve toward airport-like management and operations Recruit next-generation space transportation programs Support planning, financing and development of spaceport infrastructure

Partners in Innovation USAF 45 th Space Wing -- Responsible for operating Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and the Eastern Range NASA Kennedy Space Center -- Responsible for NASA launch and payload support operations for the Space Shuttle, International Space Station, and expendable rockets Spaceport Florida Authority -- State agency responsible for space-related economic development Florida Commercial Space Financing Corporation -- Created in Florida law as a clearinghouse for innovative financing for space industry projects Enterprise Florida, Inc -- State-sponsored economic development organization with staff devoted to space industry development Florida Space Institute -- Multi-member institute hosted by University of Central Florida, designed to expand academic involvement in space research and education, primarily through direct interaction at the spaceport Florida Space Research Institute -- Independent agency, established in law, responsible for multi-university space activities

Florida’s Space Transportation Strategy Refine Florida’s Spacelift Transportation Master Plan Adopt lessons from other transportation systems to increase throughput – integrating spaceport development and planning Build on inter-governmental cooperation and facilitate industry participation in modernization of CCS Vigorously advocate federal policies that improve facilities and operations for commercial space transportation Recruit domestic and international launch vehicles to the Cape Canaveral Spaceport – become international spaceport
