Mr Brown found the key in his desk. Look at this sentence: There are all sorts of bits of explanation that could be added.

Mr Brown found the key in his desk. What desk? What key? Who is he?

Mr Brown - our teacher - found the key, which he had lost, in his desk (where he normally keeps his spare teeth).
