Goal/Objective Goal : Students will use a reading excerpt to explore alternate background information on conic sections. Objective: Students will understand basic vocabulary of conic sections and evaluate the reading for important ideas on conic sections.

Standards 1. Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening 1. Reading Independently 11. Grade 11, English 3 B. Use context clues, knowledge of root words, and word origins as well as reference sources to decode and understand new words. 4. Identify and explain main ideas and relevant ideas. 1. Identify and/or explains stated or implied main ideas and relevant supporting details from text. E. Demonstrate an appropriate rate of silent reading based upon specific grade level texts.

Standards 1. Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening 2. Reading, Analyzing, Interpreting Text 11. Grade 11, English 3 E. Examine and respond to essential content of texts and documents in all academic areas. 2. Understand non fiction as appropriate grade level.
