Monday, September 14 th Write the following notes in your journal: A colon (:) is used at the end of a complete thought to introduce a list, an explanation, or a formal quotation. A semicolon (;) is used to join the parts of a compound sentences if you don’t use a coordinating conjunction. Paste the paper in your journal with the sentences. ADD in the semicolon or colon where it is needed. Write CORRECT next to the sentence if it’s correct as it is. 1.Treasure Island has all the elements of an exciting story: intricate plot, interesting characters, dramatic situations, and suspense. 2.It’s full of suspense; the good guys, some of whom are interesting, some of whom are dull, win in the end. 3.I stayed up until 10:30 three nights in a row reading it. 4.Jim begins the treasure hunt; he finds a map in the trunk of an inn guest who dies. 5.Jim gathers some trusted older friends to help him, but one of them, the squire, talks too much.
