1. Introducing USAMV Cluj-Napoca

The agricultural higher education plays an important role in the academic life of Cluj- Napoca since October 1869 when Cluj-Manastur Institute for Agronomic Education was founded. In its 141-year existence the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca (USAMV) has developed a reputation of excellence in European teaching and research ranked as a top educational and scientific institution of Romania. The professors, actual or former students, and students involved in the scientific activities of the university have proved successful in their work and research both locally and internationally. Since 2000, USAMV has been developing itself at an impressive rhythm and has diversified the areas of specialization to reach 19 specializations, for Romanian and overseas students. The teaching staff and the over 7000 students of the university enjoy excellent conditions to enhance their learning, practical and research experience. The University has high quality amphitheatres, classrooms, laboratories, experimental fields, veterinary clinics, a modern library, sport and other recreative facilities, modern student residences and a restaurant. The university promotes and is running exchanges of staff and students with some of the best agricultural institutions in the world, cooperation programs with the European Union countries, to study and practice agricultural production in other systems. As a university of a EU member country, USAMV will continue to play a central role in the development and modernization of Romanian agriculture through the high quality training and research it offers.

The University is structured in four faculties: THE FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE : Agriculture, Mountain Sciences, Soil Sciences, Technology of Agri-food Processing, Control and Expertise of Food Products, Engineering and Protection of Environment in Agriculture (bachelor/first degree, duration of studies 4 years, full-time), Biology (3 years). THE FACULTY OF HORTICULTURE : Horticulture, Landscape Science, Forestry, Economic Engineering in Agriculture, Engineering and management in food product and agro-tourism, Land Measurements and Survey (bachelor/first degree, duration of studies: 4 years, full-time). THE FACULTY OF ANIMAL SCIENCE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY : Animal Husbandry, Fish Farming and Aquaculture, Agricultural Biotechnology, Food Industry Biotechnology (bachelor/first degree, duration of studies 4 years, full-time). THE FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE : Veterinary Medicine (bachelor/first degree, duration of studies 6 years, full-time), Biotechnology in Veterinary Medicine (bachelor/first degree, duration of studies 4 years, full-time).
