Why Are They Here? Coyotes are here because a couple small things. One reason why coyotes are here is that they have no natural predators in this area. Some of the coyotes natural predators are animals such as bears and wolves. Another reason that we think that the coyotes are moving to this area is because all of its prey is found in this area. For example, in the suburbs lots of deer and geese are found in this area, both of these things are prey to the coyote. Also another un thought prey of the coyote is frogs and fish. You might say “Why would fish be a prey of the coyote?” Well, Coyotes are very skilled swimmers and you might not notice it but the suburbs are home to lots of wetlands that could be a great home for coyotes and fish/frogs.

Coyote Food Chain

What We Did What we did to maybe solve some of these problems were informing kids at our school about the coyotes and what they can do. We also hung up posters and flyers all around the school and our community. We also handed out brochures to student and put them in our community too.

What You can do Never approach or touch a coyote Never intentionally feed a coyote Eliminate all outside food sources, especially pet foods Put garbage out the morning of pickup day Clear out wood and brush piles; they are good habitat for rats and mice and may attract coyotes Good husbandry practices, guard animals, and coyote control measures can help to protect livestock Do no allow pets t roam free when coyotes are present Consider keeping pets indoors or accompany them outside
