DO NOW :  How do the decisions of the federal government affect the lives of American soldiers?

 Identify the role of the Continental Congress on the soldiers in the Continental Army  Describe life at Valley Forge in l Grolier Encyclopedia Version 6

Read and then discuss role of Continental Congress Enter the Valley Forge scenes projected on the wall. Become a soldier. Be part of the action.

 Pretend you are a soldier at Valley Forge. Write a letter home and write a letter that your “Mom” would write back.  See handout for specifics.

 Why do you think Washington feared that the army would “starve, dissolve, or disperse” during the winter of 1777?  What do you think influenced the decisions of soldiers to remain?
