COMENIUS 2013/15 S.E.E.D PROJECT PRODUCTS BOOKLET

COMENIUS 2013/15 Corinthian Primary School (Liverpool, U.K.) Instituto Comprensivo “Roncalli “(Quarto d’Altino, Italy) Collège “Emile Zola “(Kingersheim, France) Escola “Ginesta” (Vilanova i la Geltrú, Catalonia)

This project has been designed to develop basic maths, mother tongue language, science and ICT skills of pupils through enhancing the use of the school outdoor spaces in order to promote the development of a small enterprise. In these two years, opportunities have been created for pupils to apply their skills to real life situations and understand the basics of entrepreneurship. All pupils were successfully involved in the process, including those with special needs, those at risk of exclusion and pupils of different ethnicity. INTRODUCTION

This booklet showcases a number of samples of the final results our pupils produced using the vegetables and aromatic herbs they planted, grew and harvested during the two years’ project. Pupils from the different schools worked hard to be able to present a final product and learnt a lot about how an enterprise work in the process. The booklet will allow them to share the results attained in the different countries and learn from different ideas and proposals. OUR products booklet

Corinthian Primary School LIVERPOOL, UNITED KINGDOM The children in Year 1 used tomatoes that they had grown in our S.E.E.D. area to create healthy pasta salad. The children in Year 2 used carrots that they had grown in our S.E.E.D. area to create scrumptious carrot cake.

The children in Year 3 grew pansies, sweet peas and dianthus flowers in our S.E.E.D. area. They then decorated pots crated from recycled materials to present their products. The children in Year 4 grew marigolds, nasturtium and cornflowers in our S.E.E.D. area. They used pretty florist wrap to present their products. The children in Year 5 used potatoes and onions that they had grown in our S.E.E.D. area to produce delicious soups.

ISTITUTO COMPRENSIVO “RONCALLI” QUARTO D’ALTINO, ITALY Kindergarten pupils prepared some noodles of different colours, using sage for the green and tomato and the red ones. “Da Vinci “Primary school : after growing a good amount of aromatic herbs, included some wild ones, which naturally grow everywhere in our area –the pupils prepared traditional some dishes and wrote down the recipes. They also made some little soaps, using aromatic herbs.

COLLEGE “EMILE ZOLA” KINGERSHEIM, FRANCE A nice recipe... Some of the pupils in 4eme went to see what had been harvested at the end of the summer and chose one vegetable to use in a recipe : carrots. They brought different recipes with carrots in class and we selected one to work on. The pupils spent some time translating it to English and learned specific cooking terms. Then we all agreed we had to illustrate it and two pupils in the class proposed to make a special presentation … Here it is ! : New Year’s cards. During the project, pupils discovered what land art was by picking up seeds, arrange them to make nice patterns and they used them to create New Year’s cards. They were sent to our French partners to wish a happy new year. Par les élèves du club potager au Collège Emile Zola de Kingersheim : graines de haricot, tournesol, œillet d’Inde, potimarron, maïs, bulbes de jacinthe. « Land-Art » élèves du club potager, collège Emile Zola, Kingersheim

Here is an example : MotImageSigne Poireau Tasting some vegetables. At the beginning of the second year, the pupils harvested some vegetables and made salads with carrots, radishes, French beans and beetroots. They were happy to eat what they had grown. Science lessons. In Chemistry, pupils analysed some vegetables (water test) and made posters to illustrate the results. In Biology, some students measured the growth of corn and realised graphics.
