Promoting Inclusion in Perth and Kinross Leading Change and Promoting Inclusion Recall Day, 15 th June 2006 Andrew Metcalfe Head Occupational Therapist, Mental Health.

What’s Happening Promoting Recovery Service Re-design Occupational Therapy Service

Promoting Recovery Major drive in Tayside to become a “recovery” based service Training of key people (including users) by Scottish Recovery Network Partnership between NHS and Local Authority Tayside Recovery Knowledge Exchange on NHS e-library site

Service Re-design Major redesign of mental health services in Tayside Opportunities for influencing how new and re-provided services can promote inclusion and user involvement Increased profile and empowerment of local user groups e.g. PLUS Competencies for support workers in community (recovery ethos)

Occupational Therapy Service Often easier to influence things “close to home” Leading change and promoting inclusion workshops – February 2006, January 2007 Information from original workshops shared with key players in Tayside (e.g. Mental Health Review Implantation Team) Local web-based developments – support and information available to staff Working especially with support staff to have social inclusion planning with people Service wide push for patient/public involvement agenda

We have a long way to go, but we want to put inclusion at the top of our agenda.
