The Pennsylvania Gazette Database An Introduction and How to Guide By Tom Borysiewicz

Getting Started When you first access the database, from the Buley Library of Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) website, you are presented with this Menu Bar. For an explanation of the websites feature click the corresponding link. Click the red letter words on the following pages to learn more.

Searching by Keyword Searching on the Pennsylvania Gazette Database is very straightforward, the first page you are presented with is the search page. From the text bar you can type a keyword and restrict the search by Source and Dates Published, finally sorting by date, publication or collection.

Dates Published The feature allows you to select a certain number of years. If you wanted articles from a specific date or period of time this option will help you narrow down your choices.

Word Index Searching The word index allows one to search by words in between other words. This allows for spelling variations and other word variations to be found and searched.

About The Archives These are the archives that the database draws from, it is a wide selection and more information can be learned about the papers from the website. The Liberator Godey`s Lady`s Book The Pennsylvania Gazette The Civil War: A Newspaper Perspective African American Newspapers American County Histories to 1900 The Pennsylvania Genealogical Catalogue The Pennsylvania Newspaper Record: The South Carolina Gazette

Searching Choices You can search the index by Keyword, the Word Index or simply by Browsing the Archives.
