The Mission of the Howard County Public School System is to ensure excellence in teaching and learning so that each student will participate responsibly in a diverse and changing world. Goal 1 – Each child regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability or socioeconomic status, will meet the rigorous performance standards that have been established. All diploma-bound students will perform on or above grade level in all measured content areas. Goal 2 – Each school will provide a safe and nurturing environment that values our diversity and commonality.

Standards and Assessment Kindergarten teachers are teaching HCPSS Common Core Mathematics Curriculum ALL other teachers are teaching HCPSS Essential Curriculum and infusing –writing standards –lessons that encourage students to demonstrate Standards for Mathematical Practices

Standards and Assessment Curriculum staff is doing work that will lead to HCPSS Common Core Curriculum New curriculum will be phased in over time Many teachers will have some revised materials in August 2012
