Richard Avedon Born May 15, 1923 in New York City in the U.S Studied at New School for Social Research, and Dewitt Clinton High Svhool in The Bronx. His work appears in “Harper Bazzar”, and his work was also put into “Vogue”, and “Life”. He is known for Fashion, and art photography. He got his inspiration from his first subject his younger sister who was schizophrenic. He started using models outdoors smiling and laughing instead of using them indoors without expression.

Boho Taken in the 1970’s The lighting used is artificial lighting, it’s coming from the right shadowing her left. The main subject is the Hippy Girl, because she’s the only person in the photo. The Picture is in black and white making her more striking. I feel the photographer is trying to communicate the life of a hippy in the 1970s I selected this photo, because it feels a lot more raw then most of his other photos he made

Marylin Monroe Taken May 6, 1957 Takin in richrard avedon’s studio The main photo of the subject is marylin monroe because she is centered in the picture. The more lighter artificial lighting with the cropped photo gives this picture a better feel especially in black and white. I feel the photographer is trying to communicate Marylin Monroe’s humanity in the picture, because to most people actors are like our idols we expect them to be perfect all the time but we forget they’re human too. I feel the photo has a raw since of human emotion on Marylin’s face she looks sad, and tired like she’s not enough which gives you a more raw feel of her humanity.

John Lennon Taken in 1965 The Lighting used is artificial and coming from the right to shadow the other side. The main subject of this photograph is john lennon, because the photo is more centered around him. The black and white of the photo mixed with the lighting gives it a striking appearance with his face shadowed. I think the photographer was trying to show more of john lennon’s wisdom, above anything else. I chose this picture, because John Lennon was a huge inspiration to many people and this picture shows him with a solemn face that looks like it’s alwayd thinking

John Galliano Taken in 1999 The lighting used is artificial, and comes from the right capturing Galliano’s features. The subject of the picture is Galliano, because it’s centered around him. The black and white, and lighting give the photo a standout of Galliano’s sharp features. I feel the photographer is communicating a sense of being wild, and out there. I chose this picture, because it’s not something you’d see everyday and stands out on it’s own

William Catsby The picture was taken in 1963 This picture uses artificial lighting hitting the subject straight not going at an angle. The main subject of the photograph is William Catsby, because the photo is centered around him. The picture is in black and white taking a full on approach with the lighting. Also it is probably crapped to show mostly the mans face. The Photographer was trying to communicate the story of this man’s pain, and saddness in slavery. I selected this photo, because there’s a story behind the man about pain, and sorrow from when he was a slave and felt terrible. It shows these raw emotions in the picture of all the past pain.
