Globalization By Laura Ramone & Matthew Mudvay

What is Globalization? Globalization is the growth of global trends involving culture and all its aspects, which displaces traditional boundaries, for the sake of capitalism.

Examples of Globalization: Multi-national Corporations use globalization to expand their markets. McDonalds, Starbucks, etc. are examples of this.

Conflicting Views: Anti-Globalization Loss of jobs Market competition leads to dominant corporations. The corporations then displace independent stores (mom and pop shops)

Conflicting Views: Anti-Globalization Destroys culture- results in westernization Rapid spread of disease Slavery: Indentured Servitude:: Imperialism: Globalization Lack of diversity, corporations create monopolies.

Pro-Globalization: Positive Views Trade leads to greater specialization in exports etc. Greater specialization, meaning certain regions grow certain things, and nothing else. Voluntary exchange is mutually beneficial. Creates an interconnectedness between nations and greater diversity. Exchange and diffusion of ideas, and technology.

Topics of Heated Discussion The World Trade Organization, acts as a mediator between trade disputes. Many past and recent protests by anti- globalization activists. Battle for Seattle April’s Geneva protest

Conclusion Best way is to let each country trade their own way. People of all countries should be more consumer aware. Each person can make the decision to buy products from companies.
