What are samurai? The samurai are essentially Japanese warriors during the feudal era. They provide protection for the feudal lords of Japan for food, money and parcels of land.
A little history The samurai (also called bushi) started as trained warriors who’s practices were heavily influenced by the Buddhism religion meant to protect feudal lords after the Taika reforms of 646 A.D. during the period of weak emperors lost power over rural Japan and samurai took over. Soon after the samurai held both military and political power over Japan. After many conflicts the age of the samurai ended in 1877.
