WHO WE ARE Voluntary organisation of 20 members and 2 associates Representing those responsible for all major public services, employing about 20% of national workforce Active in central & local government/ health/education/local public transport/drainage and coastal protection/law and accountancy/other.

WE ARE IN CEEP TO PROTECT OUR INTERESTS AS EMPLOYERS The European Treaty gives the social partners (ie employers and unions) influence and power: The Commission has to consult SP on employment and social policy initiatives The SP may be asked by the Commission to negotiate agreements The SP also have their own negotiating agenda Agreements reached by the SP can be made legally binding throughout Europe.

MEMBERSHIP OF CEEP GIVES US A SEAT AT EUROPEAN NEGOTIATIONS For over 12 years the UK section of CEEP has been involved in every European social partner cross-sectoral negotiation Because texts are developed in English we are usually on the all-important drafting groups This position gives us access to the CBI, the TUC and BIS.

SOCIAL DIALOGUE ISN’T EVERYTHING CEEP has many other interests, especially the protection and promotion of public service in the context of EU competition policy PPE has always been prominent in the Social Affairs Committee. We are now also active in CEEP committees concerning public procurement, macro-economic policy, water and environmental protection and public transport To have influence in a club you need to demonstrate a long-term commitment.

VALUE FOR MONEY PPE subscriptions have been held at the same level for four years now, despite an unfavourable exchange rate Most of our budget goes towards the membership fee we pay CEEP. This is the same as Italy’s and less than what the French and Germans pay The costs of our Director have been reduced by 60% and we now use a number of unpaid volunteers to fill the gaps.

USING OUR RESOURCES Sign up with Janet Beaumont for access to our website and bi-monthly newsletters Attend any CEEP meeting you wish Contact Mick Brodie if you wish to be briefed on the state of play in negotiations Ask Janet if you would like her or Charles Nolda to brief your members on the work of PPE and how what happens in Brussels often impacts on every manager in public service.
