senior undergrads – intro to ubicomp lab 朱浩華教授 Presented by 高新綠

ubiquitious computing 無所不在

not going to talk about complex theory and &*^%^&% research talk about two simple things and what really matters: - projects previous students did - places previous students went

tung-yen’s playful tray (2006) encourage good eating habits in young children sense: recognize behavior weight sensor underneath the tray to sense eating actions eating actions as game input feedback: play to engage behavior change interactive games: coloring cartoon character she went to MIT

kerry’s playful bottle(2009) use social pressure for persuasion attach phone to cup sense: recognize drinking action accelerometer to detect drinking action camera to detect water level feedback: use “social pressure” to engage behavior change she went to CMU camera water level

ted & tiffany’s pipe probe (2010) a tiny sensor droplet maps 3d layout of (hidden) water pipes leakage often occurs at pipes’ joints or turning points pressure sensor detects when pipes make a vertical turn probe flowing – change of pressure gyro sensor detects when pipes make a horizontal turn probe flowing – change of rotation angle ted won the prestigious MSRA PhD Fellowship Award tiffany cannot decide where to go (MIT/Stanford/Berkeley/CMU) pressure sensor gyro sensor fin

looking for students who have high motivation & passion like to build & test working systems get things done reasonable english skill reasonable gpa good flexibility on what you want to do, and expect your work to be the very best in your area (not just the best in taiwan, but the best in the world!)
