Dane County Department of Public Works, Highway & Transportation Engineering Division Highway & Transportation Division Solid Waste Division

The Engineering Division is responsible for providing professional engineering services to county departments; participating in space allocation and development planning; regularly reviewing and assessing county facilities; and developing recommendations for facility repair and maintenance. The Engineering Services Division also designs projects for the county; prepares plans and specifications; and manages the bidding, construction, closeout, and payment of the projects. The Division is responsible for preparing requests for proposals from architectural and engineering consultants for various major county projects or for projects where additional expertise is needed. Highway & Transportation Division In order to meet the public’s need for access and freedom of movement, the Dane County Highway and Transportation Department designs, coordinates, and maintains transportation systems that are (1) safe for both workers and the general public; (2) responsive; (3) efficient; (4) effective; (5) environmentally sound; and (6) financially responsible.

Management Responsibilities 541 miles (1,241 lane miles) of County Highways (maintenance & construction) 378 miles (1,270 lane miles) of State and Interstate Highways (maintenance) 1,000 car parking ramp 6 Garage facilities & 4 separate salt storage facilities Oversight to Rail Transit Commissions Total Highway and Transportation Budget = $18,808,900
