Math Students are expected to know their addition and subtraction facts. Timed facts tests are given on Fridays. A math journal is used to record daily notes and practice exercises from class lessons. They are kept in class, but may go home in the student’s binder for review. The Daily Math Homework is the best way to practice at home and show parents what is learned in class. Students are expected to use higher level thinking skills. They are encouraged to use the 4-Step Problem Solving Process to show their thinking. Math TAKS Test ~ April 28, 2009

4- Step Problem Solving Main Idea- What is the question asking me to do? Details- Numbers and information that you need from the problem. Strategies- Solve the problem. Write a number sentence. How- Write a sentence about how you solved the problem.

CFISD Online Math Resources Go to the Cy-Fair ISD Homepage:  Departments  Curriculum & Instruction  Elementary:Mathwww.cfisd.net Resources include: Model Drawing: 3 rd grade – shows how to do the 4- Step process. 3 rd Grade [1 st or 2 nd Semester] – shows the pacing and sequence of the math curriculum with additional assessment examples.

Science Science Study Guides are issued to students and kept in their binder. They should be used on a daily basis at home for homework help, to study vocabulary, and review concepts. They will be collected at the end of the year. Students will be expected to know the steps of the Scientific Process and use them in hands-on class labs and investigations. Nature Trails - our 3 rd grade Science Field Trip - is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, Oct. 2 nd and 3 rd. Students should be prepared for a full day of hands-on Science activities outdoors, and be dressed appropriately… and wear bug spray! Volunteers for Nature Trails will be trained on Sept. 26. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign-up tonight and we will contact you with more details.
