Barack Obama Alec Martinez Period 3

State Senator In 1996 Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate. As a state senator, he served as chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee. His bid for the United States Senate in 2004 was his first attempt at statewide political office.

Race Against Alan Keyes The state Republican party then brought in Alan Keyes, a conservative radio talk-show host and former diplomat who moved to Illinois from Maryland for the contest. In what was the first United States Senate race in which the two leading candidates were African Americans, Obama handily defeated Keyes in November, taking 70% of the vote.

Running For President Obama announced that he would be running for president for the democratic vote. In order do represent the democrats he would have to defeat strong politician Hillary Clinton

Race for the Democratic Vote In the fight for the democratic vote, Barack Obama is looking to win over strong politician Hillary Clinton. With only a few states left and more super delegates, it looks like Barack Obama will win the democratic vote and will run for president against the republican nomination. Even when leading Clinton in Delegates, he will not declare victory until the race is over or if Clinton backs down.

Running Against a War Hero After capturing the democratic vote, Obama is know running against the republican representative John McCain. In his campaign Obama proposed a change for America. This change included the new health care reform. In the end Obama had become the new President of the United States of America. He is also the first African American President.

Health Care Reform Proposal When Obama Became President, the world was in shock and awe. Obama then proposed the health care reform. This would have been a major change in America if the reform is passed. So Obama will have to wait and see if America wanted the new health care reform.

Health Care Decision The Republican Party is against the health care reform. The Republicans say that this reform will not help out the economy. America decided that we are ready for the health care reform. Since the reform was passed, it will help around 32 million unemployed Americans receive health care. The reform will also open around one million new jobs in the medical field

A More Perfect Union Two hundred and twenty-one years ago, in a hall that still stands across the street, a group of men gathered and, with these simple words, launched America's improbable experiment in democracy. Farmers and scholars; statesmen and patriots who have traveled across an ocean to escape tyranny and persecution finally made real their declaration of independence at a Philadelphia convention that lasted through the spring of 1787
