Three key issues: Vision ( Changing the world) Purpose ( Mission) Purpose ( Mission) Vision (Itself) Vision (Itself) Values Values

Vision-Purpose (Mission) Purpose – Mission Purpose – Mission List All Congregational Activities (Ministries) List All Congregational Activities (Ministries) Then ask the question WHY? Then ask the question WHY? Only 3 possible answers to the question, WHY?

Vision-Purpose (Mission) We conduct our ministries (primarily) for ourselves! ….the question, WHY?

Vision-Purpose (Mission) We conduct our Ministries (primarily) for those not here yet! ….the question, WHY?

We conduct our ministries (primarily) for both: Ourselves Those not here yet Vision-Purpose (Mission) ….the question, WHY? Crucial Question must then be asked ????

Vision-Purpose (Mission) ….Who gets served first??? If the answer is those not here yet – OUTWARD FOCUS If the answer is ourselves – INWARD FOCUS

Vision-Purpose (Mission) No need for a mission statement ! Just one question ! Are you as a congregation focused: INWARD Or Or OUTWARD ?

Vision-Itself Vision is the answer to the question: What will it look like in five to ten years if we implement our mission well?

Vision-Itself Key question: Is your vision expressed in relation to your: CONGREGATION? Or COMMUNITY ?

Vision-Itself Congregation – Selfish – Congregation – Selfish –Non-Motivating Community – Outward Focus – Fuels the soul Community – Outward Focus – Fuels the soul

Vision-Values Values – Our most basic beliefs that affect our everyday behavior And Govern how we do ministry as a congregation.

Vision-Values Most congregations do not know their real values. Most congregations do not know their real values. Real values revealed under stress ! Real values revealed under stress !

Vision-Values For a congregation to move to: An OUTWARD focused mission and A Vision of a changed community They must go through stress !

Going up the lifecycle means: Going up the lifecycle means: Birth Adulthood Death OUTWARD focused Mission Vision of a changed community Values consistent with such a mission and vision

TWO MAJOR QUESTIONS MUST BE ASKED -Is it growing by attracting un-churched people? -Is it growing by attracting un-churched people? - Do those leading the program understand that programs strategic significance in relation to the congregation’s mission?

Ministries (Programs) -Does the implementation of ministry reflect missionary thinking? -Do ministries start where people are to move them on to discipleship? -How are the ministries helping the congregation to grow? 2. How does a congregation develop an overall strategy for their programs?
