Engineering

What is Engineering? Engineering is a Two Year Course ending with the Leaving Certificate. There is a Higher and Ordinary level. Students learn about the following areas: Materials (Metals & Plastics) Processes Machining (Lathe, Drill, etc.)

Processes Machining (Lathe, Drill, etc.) Plastic Forming (Bending, Moulding, etc.) Joining ( Soldering, Brazing, Screw threads) Hand Tools & Skills (Measuring, Cutting, ) Projects How to design, make and finish a project.

There are two parts, both in 5th Yr. Project (Nov. to March) Written Exam. (June) 1.Project This is typically a battery powered vehicle. It is designed and made between November and March of 5th Year. There are two parts in the project, - Folder and Manufacture.

Folder The folder contains research, sketches and final drawings of their own design. Manufacture The project is made in class. 2.Written (Engineering Theory) This takes place in June with the rest of their Exams
