This is a fold-down clothes bar that will hold up to 12 plastic clothes hangers or even more wire hangers. As I don’t have a trailer wall to put it on, I clamped it to a door. Down when not in use Up position for hanging clothes

Clothes bar starts out as a 2” x 10 ½” piece of ¾” pine or spruce Clothes bar starts out as a 2” x 10 ½” piece of ¾” pine or spruce. Drill a row of 3/8” holes ½” from one side (see drawings later for specs). After drilling holes, draw a line down the center of the holes and cut off along the line.

The clothes bar after cutting off excess, leaving “grooves” on top to space hangers and keep them from falling off the bar. Ends are rounded per specs (later slide).

A slot with rounded ends is cut in the back end of the clothes bar and a dowel in the wall base unit goes through the slot. The bar slides back and forth on the dowel to lock into the up position. A router can be used to cut the slot, but I used my drill press to make four holes with a forstner bit, then cut a slot in the bottom with my band saw so I could saw off the excess wood to clean out the slot. Then, I used some sandpaper on a narrow piece of wood to finish smoothing the flat sides of the slot. The place where the band saw cut into the slot will have no effect on the operation or the integrity of the clothes bar. If one desires, it can be filled with epoxy.

To use the clothes bar, swing the bottom up and out, then slide it back on the dowl until the back end of the bar is beneath the plywood stop on the base unit.
