Hastings Public Schools Fall 2008 Prepared by: Tim Hasty Bambenek & Jeff Destross

 Do Not Log on to the computer as yourself!  Log on to:  Select SchoolView (Tab on the blue menu bar)  Select Staff Links  Select Log in to I-Cue  Enter your employee number and password  On the top select GradeBook

1. Set up preferences 2. Set up categories 3. Learn how to enter a definition 4. Establish a follow up session (Reporting & Submission). Tuesday, October 21 st (7:15 A.M. McAuliffe & 3:45 P.M. Pinecrest)

 On the top tabs select Gradebook  Go to Set-Up  Select Preferences  Enter your phone number  Enter your address  If you want to use Custom Fields this is where you would enable them.

 Decide how you want your rounding (always go out one more than you want to display)  Check if you want adjusted points  Check your data entry (cursor) and sort  Edit Publishing Status  Select Do Not Publish for all of your classes

 We can use up to 99 grading scales per class  We have a default grading scale and a pass fail grading scale set up. Default Grading Scale Letter GradeLower Limit

 If you have a student that would benefit from a Pass/Fail Grading Scale you will need to add it.  To use the pass/fail select add a new grading scale and select it in the drop down menu Pass/Fail Grading Scale: Letter GradeLower Limit P60 F---

 Now that you have defined your grading scale you will need to assign it to that class or an individual within the class.  In set-up select Assign Grading Scale.  Assign the grading scale to the entire class or individual students

 If you will be redefining the categories *default are: homework, quizzes and tests (and the hidden extra credit) you will make your changes here.

Categories are subsections of a course that carry a selected value. Categories allow you to divide up your subject into different skill level. Your categories must equal the 100% for the given subject. When using categories you need not concern yourself with the total number of points in one category compared to another. The grade is determined by the category weight.

Example Categories: Vocabulary Comprehension Constructed-Response Grammar Spelling Each of the categories will not need a weight.

Vocabulary (20%) Comprehension (20%) Constructed-Response (20%) Grammar (20%) Spelling (20%)

Another option is to use more generic categories (Homework, quizzes and tests) and you will need concern yourself with the value distribution of the various assessments.

Daily work (0%) Tests (0%) Facts (0%) Here you will be using total points (although you can still tie a definition to a category)

Daily work (50%) Tests (25%) Facts (25%) Here each of your categories has a given weight.

Nothing is set in stone. Nothing is being seen by the public (via SchoolView) Everything can be modified later

 Go to Scores on the top menu  Select Reading  In the Action Menu select New Definition  Enter a Title (Week 1)  Enter a Category (Vocabulary)  Enter a Start Date/Stop Date  Click Save and Enter

If the majority of students have the same grade, simply enter it in the top box, select apply to all and modify the students that didn’t earn that grade. You may use the different status keys to signify why a student may not have points (absent). This is a great area for you to leave comments to remember later (s/he did not study the correct vocabulary etc.)

 Save,SaVe,sAVe

In the menu box of the definition you have three options: 1. Edit Score 2. Edit Definition (change category, points or dates). 3. Delete Definition Remember…..

1. Set up preferences 2. Set up categories 3. Learn how to enter a definition

 Look over your manual  Begin setting up your classes  Talk with your grade level team (especially on the 29 th of September) about your categories and weights.  Begin using your GradeBook-write down questions you have in your manual.  Follow-Up Session (Reporting & Submission). Tuesday, October 21 st (7:15 A.M. McAuliffe & 3:45 P.M. Pinecrest) A. Learn about GradeBook Reports B. Learn about GradeBook/Report Card Submission
