High Altitude Balloon Instrument Survival Package Joseph Burns, Tom Fox, Austin Isitor, Nick Schuyler

 Replacement for Temperature Satellite project in 2005  Grants from Ohio Space Grant Consortium and National Science Foundation  Idea is to build “package” that will carry electrical equipment to 100,000 ft, drop, freefall for 35-40,000 ft, then deploy parachute  Past problems include unsuccessful parachute deployment

 Because of the altitude involved, we are at the mercy of the elements at high altitude  Flight prediction software is extremely important to a successful launch  Ultimate goal of the team is to find a design that will significantly increase the likelihood of a successful launch and recovery  New parachute release mechanism  New ballute design  Eliminate parachute altogether?
