Transportation Systems A book about four kinds of transportation systems and their elements.

Table of Contents Airplane ………………………………………. Page 1 Boat ……………………………………………… Page 2 Car ……………………………………………….. Page 3 Train ……………………………………………. Page 4

An airplane transportation system has many elements. The first is an airplane, which needs things like a pilot, gas, glass for windows, and seats. Another element is an airport. Many people work there. There are ticket takers, vendors, and luggage handlers. 1

The elements of this boat transportation system are water, a captain, life savers, wood and glass, and gas. There are also “traffic” signs on the waterways to help the captain drive the boat. 2

Many elements are necessary for a car transportation system. Highways with marked lanes, street lights, road signs, and posted speed limits help keep everyone safe. 3

Another transportation system is the train. The most important element is the train tracks. The conductor runs the train. Other elements are the passengers, the cars, special lights, and railroad crossing signs. 4
