Thursday, April 14 Arrival Day Upon your arrival you will be met by a representative of Academia Uruguay and escorted to your host family’s home. There you will relax for the remainder of the day. Friday, April 15 Explore Montevideo After breakfast, meet at a central point in town and travel to the language school and get familiar with the Academia staff and the surrounding area. Discover some interesting facts on your own about your host city. Saturday, April 16 Punta del Este The group will travel to Punta del Este to enjoy a relaxing day by the sea. The first stop on the way will be to Casapueblo, sculptured home of the famous artist Carlos Paez Vilaro. You’ll also visit the some of the seaside resorts such as Atlantida, Piriapolis, and Punta del Este. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day outdoors. Sunday, April 17 Colonia del Sacramento Today’s excursion is to a UNESCO World Heritage site known as Colonia. It has been passed back and forth since its founding between the Spanish and Portuguese crowns. It is a charming city with cobble stoned streets, and a lighthouse built by the Portuguese. You’ll discover many visually inspiring sights here at this historical city. Monday, April 18 Language Lessons/Afternoon Excursion Today begins your first Spanish lesson. You will be divided into classes according to your language abilities. You’ll enjoy highly effective lessons while coming in contact with some interesting people from all over the world. In the afternoon, stop by Parliament Palace and the Communications Tower.
Spring Trip to Uruguay Tuesday, April 19 Spanish Lessons/Workshops Today you continue your second day of lessons. In the afternoon, take advantage of a variety of language workshops or just enjoy some free time strolling around town. Wednesday, April 20 Spanish Lessons/Teatro Solis On day three of your lessons, notice how your Spanish continues to improve. This afternoon’s visit is to Teatro Solis, Uruguay’s oldest performing arts center. Join a guided tour in Spanish to learn all about the theater and admire its architecture and recent renovations. Thursday, April 21 Spanish Lessons/Pittamiglio Castle More Spanish lessons are in store, followed by a visit to a very unique castle built by an eccentric chemist and architect. It’s a castle with incredible stories, and mysterious hidden place. If you are lucky, you might catch a theater show on this day that will tell you all about this mystical castle. Afterwards treat yourself to dessert and enjoy the view of the bay. Friday, April 22 Spanish Lessons/Shopping Day Conclude your final day of lessons and bid your fellow classmates farewell. Spend your final afternoon doing some last minute shopping and taking in all of the sights one last time. Saturday, April 23 Free Day with Host Families/Flight Back to the US On your final day in Montevideo, spend the last hours with your host family and make certain that you have your bags fully packed for your return flight home. In the afternoon, you will be picked up and returned to the airport for the flight back to Washington, DC. Be back in time to enjoy Easter dinner with your family the following day.
