Leading into the Civil War As time progressed, more support for the abolishment of slavery grew. Abolisionists like Frederick Douglas and John Brown accumulated support to end slavery in the US. The final push came from Pres. Abraham Lincoln who declared Kansas a non-slave state. This made the South angry.

The Fighting Begins…and Ends With the South wanting to keep slavery, and the North (including the Federal Gov) wanting abolish slavery, the South openly starts to break federal laws. The North starts to send troops to keep order in the South which ignites war between the two regions. The first “shots” are fired at Fort Sumter in SC. After 4 years of fighting, the war ends with the North victorious.
