What are compounds? Chapter 1 Lesson 3 By Meredy H.

 A compound is a kind of matter made of a combination of two or more elements.  Every compound has a formula that show how many atoms are of each element are in the compound. ( Water is H2O. )  Carbon does not burn. Properties of compounds.

 An element can be present in more than one compound.  Compounds are important for you body.  Water is a compound.  Other compounds make up much of your skin, bones, tendons, and ligaments. The Same Element in Different Compounds.

 Salts are compounds made of particles held together by opposite charges.  Most salts are made of two properties.  Almost every salt is made up of at least one metal element, and non metal element.  Salts can form crystals. Salts.

 Salts can form when chemicals called acids and bases react.  Many acids and bases are dangerous. Forming Salts.

 Table salt is sodium chloride.  Salts are formed when an element in the group under sodium or magnesium in the periodic table combines with a element under fluorine. Properties of Salts.
