Course focus: academic language Listening comprehension Speaking fluency & accuracy: pronunciation, grammar, & vocabulary Presentation & note-taking skills

Course textbook/supplies Speech Communication Made Simple (4th ed.) USB flash drive Black ink pen & paper (every class)

Class behavior When is “on time”? (you & your assignments) –Class starting time; not after that Late work does not receive credit. Missed class & tutorial work cannot be rescheduled.

Class behavior What does a mature student do during class? –Pays attention; is helpful & cooperative –Is respectful of others and the environment, e.g., no feet on desk seats –Uses class time to learn & improve

What does a good student do … before class? –Prepares early, brings needed supplies about absences? –Planned & unplanned, excused & unexcused

Absences Planned absences: Do work ahead of time. Bring documentation for excused absences. Contact classmate. Inform Dr. Eason. If excused, missed work can be made up.

What does a good student do... when he or she needs help? –Sees Dr. Eason. Visits the Writing Center or the library’s reference desk. He or she does not cheat. (plagiarism) –Work must be new, original, and personal
