BASIC SKILL MODALITIES & SUCCESS RATES  TRADITIONAL  MEDIATED LEARNING  MATH PATH - COMPRESSED COURSES  EXTENDED COURSES

CURRENT PCC BSI MATH INITIATIVES  MATH 450 – Number Sense  MATH PATH  MATH JAM  STREAMLINING MATH CURRICULUM  VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT OF MATH CURRICULUM  PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

MATH 450 – NUMBER SENSE  PREREQUISITE TO PRE-ALGEBRA  CUTOFF SCORE  FALL 2010 start date  NOT AN ARITHMETIC COURSE  MEANING OF DECIMALS, FRACTIONS, OPERATIONS ARE EXAMINED

MATH PATH  COMPRESSED COURSES  LINKED TO MATH SUPPORT CLASSES  SUPPLEMENTAL LEARNING  DEDICATED TUTORING SPACE AND TUTORS  FULL TIME STUDENTS  81% SUCCESS RATE  OFFERED FOR BSI AND TRANSFERRABLE CLASSES

MATH JAM  JUMP START TO LEARNING  2 WEEKS BEFORE START OF FALL AND SPRING  NO COST, NO CREDIT  REVIEWS MATH CONCEPTS

STREAMLINING MATH CURRICULUM  CREATED NEW SLO’S FOR BSI COURSES  CREATED RUBRICS FOR SLOS  ELIMINATED REDUNANCY IN CURRICULUM  TEACH LESS BREADTH, MORE DEPTH  COLLABORATIVE MATH DIVISION EFFORT

VERTICAL ALIGNMENT  EXAMINED CURRICULUM FOR ALL BSI COURSES  NUMBER SENSE– MEANINGS AND WHOLE NUMBERS  PRE-ALGEBRA – RATIONAL NUMBERS  BEGINNING ALGEBRA – REAL NUMBERS  INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA – COMPLEX NUMBERS

HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT  COMMON SLOS  COMMON ASSESSMENTS IN PROGRESS  PILOTING MYMATHTEST FOR FREE RESPONSE ASSESSMENT

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT  SATURDAY RETREAT BEFORE SEMESTER  LUNCH AND LEARNS DURING THE SEMESTER  SHARING IDEAS, RESOURCES, AND MISERY  FUNDED THROUGH BSI FUNDS

FUTURE BSI MATH INITIATIVES  ALTERNATIVE TO INTERMDIATE ALGEBRA  PUSD PARTNERSHIP  MODULUES  COHORTS

MATH ALTERNATIVE TO INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA  STARTING IN FALL 2011  WILL SERVE AS A PREREQUISITE FOR STATISTICS  COVERS TOPICS SUCH AS:  FINANCIAL LITERACY AND PERSONAL DECISION MAKING  INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICS  GEOMETRY OVERVIEW  PROBLEM SOLVING  ADDITIONAL TOPIC(S) INCLUDING: Graph Theory, Voting, Health and Nutrition, History of Mathematics

PUSD PARTNERSHIP  COLLABORATIVE EFFORT CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS  WILL OFFER REFRESHER COURSE FOR HS SENIORS – EQUIVALENT TO PREALGEBRA AND BEGINNING ALGEBRA  SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION WILL GUARANTEE ENROLLMENT INTO INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA OR ITS ALTERNATIVE

MATH BSI MODULES  STILL IN THE TALKING STAGE  LOGISTICS NEED TO BE OVERCOME  FACILITIES NEED TO BE FOUND OR CREATED  RECOGNIZE THE BENEFITS TO STUDENTS AND THE IMPEDIMENTS TO OVERCOME

COHORTS AND LEARNING COMMUNITIES  MATH JAM LEADS TO COHORTS  LINKED COURSES  DEFINED SCHEDULES  BLOCK LEARNING
