 Your prompt, how do the choices of characters in the play determine Rome’s and Juliet’s fate?

 The first choice that one of our characters makes that leads to his/her death is Romeo’s choice to kill Tybalt.  Romeo declares to Tybalt after Mercutio’s death, “You or I or both must go with him” ( ).

 Commentary 1  If Romeo had not chosen to kill Tybalt, he would never have been banished.  Commentary 2  If he had not been banished, he would never have missed a letter from Friar Lawrence explaining Juliet was only sleeping.  Commentary 3  Because he did not receive his letter, Romeo believed Juliet was dead and killed himself.  Conclusion  Therefore, Romeo’s choice to kill Tybalt leads to his death.
