1 REGIONAL TEAM TRAINING: A PROGRAM IN TRANSITION REGIONAL TEAM TRAINERS MEETING CHICAGO, MAY 23, 2005 Glen Bottoms Regional TEAM Training Manager

2 TRADITIONAL APPROACH  Headquarters (TPM) issues general guidance for annual TEAM training plan  Regions construct plan, calculate cost of the plan and submit to TPM  TPM evaluates regional submissions and submits proposed funding plan to the OMC  Funding plan approved and funds distributed to the regions by TAD

3 NEW APPROACH FOR FY 2006  Regions budget for Regional TEAM training costs Regional TEAM Training costs (off site, one-on-one, etc.) Travel costs to attend the Regional TEAM Trainers Meeting  TPM issues general guidance and call for Regional TEAM Training Plans  Regions develop training plans consistent with TPM Guidance and Region’s estimated budget and regional budget constraints

4 NEW APPROACH FOR FY 2006 (Continued)  TPM reviews Regional plans from a quality assurance/quality control perspective  TPM formally approves Regional plans and regions implement plans for the fiscal year  TPM visits selected Regions to observe and evaluate quality of regional training  TPM maintains close contact with Regional TEAM representatives throughout fiscal year

5 NEW APPROACH FOR FY 2006 (Continued)  Regional TEAM Trainers Meeting to be held annually Recognizes value of assembling of all players (region/HQ) at a regional site to: –Discuss future plans –Evaluate TEAM training performance & approaches –Discuss improvements/enhancements to TEAM-Web –Discuss concepts/plans for next year –Discuss budget issues

6 NEW APPROACH FOR FY 2006 (Continued)  These crucial actions that must take place to ensure success: Regions must realistically budget for meaningful TEAM training activities Headquarters (TPM) oversight must be visible and effective TPM and Regions must maintain solid commitment and support to Regional TEAM training

7 CONCLUSION  Regional TEAM Training is a key program for: Ensuring grantee competence in using the TEAM- Web system Enhancing Regional staff competency in TEAM-Web (if you teach it, you gotta know it) Maintaining core group of TEAM trainers in each region Employing multiple approaches to TEAM training to reach, engage and effectively train target audiences
