Peer Editing Interactive Checklist Editing your partner’s personal narrative about their worst day ever!

Do you have your partner’s narrative in front of you? YES NO

Great! You are ready to start editing. Click the forward arrow to continue.

Oops! Go ask your partner for a copy of their narrative. When you are ready click the forward arrow.

Can you tell what your partner is writing about just by looking at their first paragraph? Hint: You should make sure you know that their narrative is about their worst day ever just by looking at the very first paragraph. YES NO

Great! Your partner is on the right track. Click the forward arrow to continue.

It’s ok, this is why we are editing! Put a pink mini PostIt Note next to the first paragraph and write TOPIC on it. Then click the forward arrow.

Can you see at least four paragraphs in your partner’s narrative? Hint: Look for the indents, there should be four indented paragraphs. YES NO

Great! Keep going. Click the forward arrow to continue.

Oops! Write the number of paragraphs your partner does have in the upper right hand corner of the paper. Then write the number 4 and put a circle around it. Then click the forward arrow to continue.

Does each paragraph have at least three sentences in it? YES NO

Great! Keep going. Click the forward arrow to continue.

Good catch! Put a star next to paragraphs that have fewer than two sentences. Then click on the forward arrow to continue.

Use a black marker and underline all places where you see dialogue (look for quotation marks) in the narrative. Do you see at least three places where there is dialogue? YES NO

Excellent. Keep on editing! Click on the forward arrow to continue.

That’s ok! Use a yellow mini PostIt and write “Need more dialogue” and put it on the paper. Then click the forward arrow to continue.

Read this carefully! Use a pink highlighter to highlight what happened in the morning in the narrative. Use an orange highlighter to highlight what happened in the afternoon the narrative. Use a blue highlighter to highlight what happened in the evening in the narrative. Were you able to highlight something for each part of the day? YES NO

Great! You are almost done with your peer editing. A few more steps to go! Click the forward arrow to continue.

Read this carefully: Take a large green PostIt. Write “morning, afternoon, evening” on it as if you were making a list. Then put a check mark next to the parts that are missing from the narrative. Stick this PostIt on the back of the paper. Click on the forward arrow to continue.

Take a classroom glitter pen and circle all of the different describing words that you see. Do you see at least ten different describing words? YES NO

Excellent. You are very close to finishing your peer edit. Click on the forward arrow to continue.

Oops, your partner needs more describing words. Use the glitter pen to write “more describing words” at the top. Click on the forward arrow to continue.

Good job with your peer editing. Your last step is to draw a smiley face on top of your partner’s paper to show them what a good job they did. When you are done, please get your paper back from your partner and sign up for a teacher conference.
