What are some things the Netherlands have done? They have built dikes (large banks of earth and stone to hold back the water.) –These are built for creation of polders. The also created polders (reclaimed new land from the sea.) –Polders were once drained and kept dry by windmills. –Today, other power sources run pumps to remove the water. –This provides farmland and settlement land. –More and more land is actually being reclaimed from the sea, so there may be many dikes behind one another.
