RISK MANAGEMENT How not to lose sleep over Club risks June 2015

What is Risk Management? Figuring out what can go wrong before it happens Making a plan to avoid or handle it

Why Risk Management? It makes life easier Fewer nasty surprises It makes the Club run more smoothly

What Kinds of Risks Are There? (With thanks to Myra Willis’s OC Workshop) Good Governance - do you have: – Executive Manual with job responsibilities – Operations manual – Succession planning & training Fiscal Responsibility – do you have – Budget – Current cheque-signing authorities – Reporting to the Club – Clear policies

What Kinds of Risks Are There? Club Paperwork – Current Constitution – Meeting minutes & motion book – Club Charter Club Activities – Meetings – Special Events – Interest Groups – Insurance (Provincial considerations)

What to Do About Them - 1 Brainstorm with Executive or Committee Evaluate the list – How likely is it to happen – Impact if it does Prioritize them: do the most important first

What to Do About Them - 2 Make a Plan for each one – List all the actions – Assign responsibility & date for each Follow up on the progress of the plan Communicate the plan to members Review the risks each year Relax and enjoy your Club! We will post Myra’s workshop material
