PoS Groupcast Control Creating, as well as adding/removing nodes from multicast groups, requires specific signaling The PoS is the core entity for managing MIH Protocol interactions between remote nodes As such, the PoS could also acquire responsibilities regarding multicast group management for d groupcast

PoS Groupcast Control Proposal A: to enhance the existing command set with group management primitives Features: – The request primitive would features parameters to indicate: Multicast MIHF ID of the target group Parameter for indicating the action to be done – Add Node to Group – Remove Node from Group – Create New Group – The response primitive would relay, back to the PoS, the outcome of these messages, by the individual nodes affected by it – This message would also re-utilize the normal MIH Protocol unicast destination procedure, allowing the PoS to send different per-node messages to specific enabled nodes, using each unique MIHF_ID as destination – Possibility of sending also multicast messages to all nodes with a list of operations to be performed (e.g., joining groups per node)

PoS Groupcast Control – Other approach Proposal B: to enhance the existing command set with group management primitives, but reutilizing current broadcast mechanisms Features: – The request primitive would features parameters to indicate: Multicast MIHF ID of the target group Parameter for indicating the action to be done – Add Node to Group – Remove Node from Group – Create New Group The zero-length MIHF ID is sued as destination, allowing a single message to reach all MIH-enabled nodes in broadcast range Different per-node multicast node attribution can be achieved by providing a list-parameter indicating the target group per node – The source MIHF is not able to discriminate the messages by MIHF_ID, requires to parse the complete message.
