What is Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers? The project is to take place in the rural areas of Gorj County, Romania. A 9 months group EVS project by EHM 1st of November 2013 – 31st of July 2014 Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers

The EVS service will last 9 months starting with 1 st of November 2013 until 31 st of July A 9 months group EVS project by EHM 1st of November 2013 – 31st of July 2014 Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers

What countries participate in Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers ? A 9 months group EVS project by EHM 1st of November 2013 – 31st of July 2014 Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers There are 10 available placements for youngsters originating from Programme and Partner Countries. The intercultural dimension of the project will be enhanced by the presence of 28 volunteers coming from Europe and Latin America: -Project “W.A.V.E.2” – 15 volunteers which ones live in different communities in Gorj county: Novaci, Baia de Fier, Rovinari, Bumbesti Jiu, Targu Carbunesti, Ticleni and Musetesti. -Project “Bring Active Citizenship in Youngsters Lives” – who live in Gorj county: Bustuchin, Huresani, Rosia, Albeni and Targu Carbunesti.

Why Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers ? A 9 months group EVS project by EHM 1st of November 2013 – 31st of July 2014 Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers Despite numerous community funding programs, Gorj County continues to be a poor county where unemployment rate is very high, youth perspectives are very low and their participation in the community life and development is very low or inexistent. Youth leave school, after that can’t adapt in society normally: don’t have professional skills, can’t find job. In schools exist juvenile violence, bullying, discrimination and stereotypical thinking. For “Euro House Musetesti” this kind of project is going to be first in which we are going to manage and direct implementation. Until now our organization worked with other organizations and participated in different EVS projects – EHM hosted a lot of volunteers in Musetesti and provided local management for the activities in this community.

What I will do as a volunteer? The theme of the project lies with social activism as a means of promoting and facilitating youths engagement in local communities and facilitating inclusion of disadvantaged youths. The volunteers will work with youngsters from schools and will raise their social awareness and social responsibility by involving them in activities with elderly. Working methods can be: non formal learning activities such as innovation youth camp, social innovation lab, games, roundtable discussions, outdoor activities, role plays, simulations, ect. A 9 months group EVS project by EHM 1st of November 2013 – 31st of July 2014 Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers

What I will do as a volunteer? In the hosting communities the volunteers will develop and implement extra-curricular activities for the children and pupils from the kindergarten, primary school, general school and High School, where volunteers can have different type of activities: - Sport activities (football, volleyball, basketball, etc.); - Language workshops (English, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, etc.); - Different type of painting workshops; - Participation or organization of school events (Halloween, Christmas, St. Valentines day, ect); -Debates (about equal rights, discrimination, smoking, bullying, ect.). A 9 months group EVS project by EHM 1st of November 2013 – 31st of July 2014 Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers

What I will do as a volunteer? The volunteers can work with the elderly citizens institutionalized in special centers (some of them don’t have families or families just forgot them), or in senior citizens clubs (with fixed hours where they can come and socialize but in some communities these clubs don’t exist). The volunteers can try to involve youngsters from communities to spend more time with older people (to play with them chess, go for a walk, to learn new recipes – Romanian traditional ones, to make handcrafts together, make dance evenings, story reading evenings, help each other, ect.). A 9 months group EVS project by EHM 1st of November 2013 – 31st of July 2014 Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers

Where will I live for 9 months? A 9 months group EVS project by EHM 1st of November 2013 – 31st of July 2014 Active Citizenship and Social Participation of Young Volunteers In most communities volunteers have a rented place that meets decent living standards. Other volunteers have the opportunity to experience the full Romanian rural experience by living with local families. Families in rural areas are very hospitable and for sure they will treat you as a family member. All volunteers will have their own private room with access to a kitchen and bathroom. In some cases the volunteers will have to share a room together with a roommate. However, each volunteer will still have his own bed. Communities, where volunteers will live in Gorj County: Musetesti, Crasna, Baia de Fier and Novaci.
