SOL Review: American History Reagan-Clinton

The "supply side" economics of President Ronald Reagan and President George Bush favored raising tariffs to increase the number of imports increasing Federal taxes to support social welfare programs providing incentives to stimulate business growth establishing government programs to provide jobs for the unemployed

In 1988, Congress voted to pay $20,000 to each of the surviving Americans of Japanese descent who were interned during World War II because the danger of war with Japan no longer existed all of the interned Japanese Americans eventually became American citizens the World Court ordered the United States to pay reparations many Americans believed the internment was unjust and unnecessary

A primary reason for the increase in federal debt between 1980 and 1996 was the cost of sending United States troops to Bosnia instability of the stock market lower sales tax revenues collected by state governments high levels of spending by the federal government

increases in social welfare spending During the 1980s, President Ronald Reagan used the ideas of supply-side economics to justify increases in social welfare spending expansion of the Social Security program tax cuts for businesses reductions in military spending

President Ronald Reagan’s supply-side economic policy was successful in increasing government spending on social programs lowering tax rates on personal and business income reducing defense spending enforcing stricter environmental regulations

One important conclusion that can be drawn as a result of the United States experience in both the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Persian Gulf War (1991) is that only the President should decide issues of war and peace the media are a powerful influence in shaping American public opinion toward war the public has little confidence in the ability of the American military international organizations play a decisive role in determining the outcome of a war

For the United States, the breakup of the Soviet Union has had the greatest effect on import quotas immigration policies advances in technology defense spending

One direct result of the Persian Gulf War was that the United States gained control of oil resources in the Middle East liberated Kuwait from Iraqi control brought about peaceful relations between Israel and its neighbors obtained overseas colonies in the Middle East

The growth of modern technology has resulted in a decrease in the population of the world increasing interdependence among nations a growing need for unskilled labor a sharp decline in the need for oil and coal

The Korean War and the Persian Gulf War were similar in that both represented United Nations efforts to assist nations in repelling aggressors involved unilateral military action by the United States were military defeats for the United Nations brought about lasting solutions to problems in each region

Support for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) reflected the United States commitment to globalization Manifest Destiny collective security isolationism

In 1991, one of the reasons President George H. W In 1991, one of the reasons President George H. W. Bush committed United States troops to the Persian Gulf War was to maintain the flow of trade through the Suez Canal fulfill military obligations as a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) contain the spread of communism in the Middle East assure the flow of Middle East oil to the United States and its allies

The point of view expressed in this cartoon is that President and Mrs. Clinton have made Chicago their new home President Clinton supports adoption over abortion Republican issues should not be part of the Democratic National Convention Democrats were looking to adopt bipartisan policies

The beginning of the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe is most closely associated with the fall of the Berlin Wall admission of Warsaw Pact nations to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) intervention of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Yugoslavia formation of the European Union
